Lithium Technology Announces New Product Lineup

The increasing demand for green vehicles means that the need for better power storage devices for vehicles has increased. Hybrid vehicles rely on a small internal combustion engine and a battery pack. Plug-in hybrids rely heavily on the latter which means that automakers should be able to come up with a battery pack which will be able to store the amount of power needed by a vehicle to draw power from for long distances.

Lithium-ion batteries are considered to be the best solution for this need of a better battery. Automakers alone will not be able to single-handedly develop efficient and safe Li-ion batteries. Thus, automakers are turning to companies specializing on the development of these power storage devices.

Companies like Lithium Technology Corporation have been helping automakers in the development of Li-ion battery packs which are lighter yet more powerful than the nickel-metal hydride battery pack used by today's hybrid vehicles.

Recently, Lithium Technology announced the launch of its latest product lineup, the LiFePO4. The said lineup owns the distinction of being the largest cells of their kind in the world. That means that the new product lineup of lithium iron phosphate cells will be able to provide the power needed by a plug-in hybrid vehicle.

The arrival of the battery lineup in the market ushers in a new era for battery solution for electric vehicles. What Lithium Technology has developed has a potential to become the powerplant of today's concept plug-in hybrid vehicles.

Dr. Klaus Brandt, Chief Executive Officer of Lithium Technology Corporation said that they have developed the new lineup of battery pack for electric vehicles. "We developed this product to power the new breed of EV's and for the fleet EV market that has been promoted recently all over the world," said the top-level executive.

The battery pack has been developed by Lithium Technology working with Sud-Chemie, a German chemical company and Phostech, Sud-Chemie's daughter company based in Canada. With the technical capabilities of these three companies, the latest in Li-ion battery technology is now ready for use on road-bound vehicles.

This does not necessarily mean though that plug-in hybrid vehicles will soon be ready for the consumer public. Automakers are still tinkering with their plug-in hybrid vehicles. One reason for this is that they would not want to come up with a vehicle that could disappoint consumers. Such an occurrence would be devastating to electric vehicles' reputation. Surely, automaker would not want their prized PHEVs to be trodden down like an Acura floor mat.
