Self-Confidence is an emotional and mental state of mind that responds to a person's need for self-acceptance and recognition. It is among the oldest and most discussed concepts in psychology. It describes a good albeit adequate perception of oneself and one's abilities. Thus, people with self confidence most often have a better idea of what they can do and will be more likely to be successful in what they attempt. They are able to more easily accept and learn from their errors.

Contrarily, a lack of confidence can prevent you from trusting that your actions or decisions will in the end work out the way you had planned. It can hence prevent the improvement of executive skills, strategic and management abilities all of which are basic and required aptitudes in the current business world. The pre-occupation with other people's opinions of your work can also make you become too self-critical, which can distract you from jobs you would have otherwise been totally able to do.

Low self confidence will also affect your social life, because people with a low level of self confidence tend to remain in their "comfort zone" and are afraid of rejection. This is called social phobia and is usually associated with low self confidence, as well as other mental afflictions like depression. People with low self confidence are afraid of being judged by their peers and will avoid meeting new people, which can result in isolation and even lower self confidence. Low self confidence is a vicious circle that's difficult to break.

To the contrary, because they can trust their own aptitudes, people with self confidence can do what they feel is appropriate and do not expect the approval of their peers. They are also able to trigger confidence: your customers, employees, boss, relatives or friends are more likely to trust you or what you are saying if you appear self-confident.

Many experiences can lead to low self confidence. Recent research indicates that parenting style has a critical effect on the development of the self confidence of children. Physical and mental abuses during childhood are for example the worse for a person's self confidence, as well as divorce or family conflicts. Overprotective parents may also contribute to a child's social phobia and discourage the independence that is necessary to develop self confidence. Failures and successes, for example at school or in one's professional life, also play a decisive role: failing a class or losing a job are among the different experiences that will negatively affect your self confidence.

It is however possible to overcome those bad experiences and improve confidence. The first step to develop self confidence would be to learn to know yourself and what your strengths are. Admitting the fact that you cannot be perfect and cannot be good in everything you do will help you gain self confidence. Accepting yourself as you are is the key to gaining self confidence. But in order to improve your self confidence you also have to start taking risks and giving yourself credit for your accomplishments. This is very basic advice which will help you improve self confidence. You may also find a lot of books which will claim they can help you gain self confidence, but many of them are not reliable.

Many people have low self confidence or are only able to gain self confidence in one or a certain number of areas of their lives because they always look for other people's approval and are afraid of failing. Many factors, including childhood traumas, can explain why some people cannot have the wholesome life of a self confident individual. These persons also do not always know how to gain self confidence. But improving self confidence can now easily and effectively be done thanks to hypnosis and NLP.

As we have seen before social phobia and low self confidence can stem from traumas or unconscious fears that are sometimes difficult to overcome with self persuasion only. Confidence hypnosis and NLP on the contrary can reach the unconscious part of the mind and modify belief systems to boost self confidence. They are powerful tools that will help you face your fears and believe in yourself to develop self confidence.

Hypnosis for building self-confidence has been used for several decades and has shown significant results in building self confidence. In a hypnotic state, accessing unconscious thoughts is a lot easier and, through hypnotic suggestion, you will be able to replace your negative thought patterns with positive ones to gain self-confidence.
