It is said that when babies smile in their sleep, they are seeing and talking to angels in their dreams. For us, we do not need a reason to smile when we are looking at them. Their cute chubby cheeks, adorable eyes, fine hair and soft skin are able to break apart even the hardest of heart. It is not unusual for a usual grumpy old man, silent and stubborn to the rest of the family, gently carrying and cuddling his very, very young granddaughter. To most, having a newborn in a family is one of the most exciting moments in one's life.

As the result from eating the fruit from the forbidden wisdom tree, Adam and Eve had inflicted their sin upon all the children that would be born into the world. New mothers, especially, may not know where to start and what to do. In this case, her friends and family who have experiences in raising their little screaming angels who bite and yell would flock to her and began pouring advices (a lot of it will consists of superstitions) and presents to welcome the babe-in-arms.

Amongst the most popular gifts are garments for babies. They usually come in pink for girls and blue for the boys. Packed in transparent boxes, they usually consist of mittens, jumpsuits and stockings for the baby. In some eastern cultures, the clothes would be placed in a dim sum serving dish. They can also be wrapped in flowers. This would definitely render the proud parents of the baby speechless.

Babies can be given bottles and baby formulas as presents. The gift would benefit mothers who cannot produce their own milk. However, do not attempt to buy any cheap formulas you can get you hands on. Babies could be allergic to some formulas so before you set out to buy one, get an opinion from someone who knows more about them. Don't be put off if you see that your gift was not made used of by the parents. When giving birthday presents, try assembling gifts in a basket. They would certainly delight the happy parents.

The traditions of giving out favors is something common in the west. They are a symbol of gratitude to the guest for sharing the special day with the parents and baby. This custom is no longer alien in the east. It has now become part of customs in almost all parts of the world.
