Explaining Happiness to a Child

I was recently asked to speak to a group of middle-school children. I am the author of Learn to Live a Life Without Problems The book is geared to an adult audience, but I found myself in the position of having to explain the road to happiness to a group of children. This, believe it or not, was no small task. But, here it is.

Can you even imagine what solving all your problems and achieving all your goals might be like

Probably not.

Does this sound too good to be true

It is not.

The idea itself seems to be just a little crazy, doesnt it To live a life COMPLETELY free of problems, accomplishing everything you have ever dreamed of! This seems at first glance to be a fantasy; an unrealistic goal that is so far outside the realm of possibility that it could not possibly be believed. Once upon a time it seemed to be those things to me also.

To understand how we could live a life completely free of problems, achieving all our goals, we must first clearly define the words. For our purposes here, a problem or a goal is a life situation in which either:

You HAVE something you do not want and wish to eliminate IT from your life

OR

You DO NOT HAVE something you desire, and wish to attain IT.

Look at any problem you have or have ever experienced, and you will find that one of these two extremely simple statements defines that so-called problem perfectly. As do they define the word goal.

Let us look again at the definition of a problem. We must always make some type of specific change if we want to GET something we do not have, or if, on the other hand, we wish to RID ourselves of something we have but do not want.

The specific goals we seek do not matter. They will be different for each and every one of us. But in every case, the end result will be the resolution of a problem as we have defined the word problem above.

That thing we want or do not want, that IT, matters not at all. IT could be peace of mind or a piece of land. IT could be a better house or a better spouse. IT might be a smaller body or a bigger bank account. Social position or some kind of addiction. Love affair, loss of hair. Less sickness or more slickness. IT does not matter. What does matter is that IT is important to you right now.

Strangely enough, the elimination or the acquisition of the IT is actually the easy part. We know because others have managed to achieve the goal. IT is possible. Many people have accomplished IT. So, the question naturally becomes Why havent YOU achieved IT

I will start by being very blunt. The universe functions according to laws. These laws are absolutes. There can be no argument with an absolute. They function perfectly. They function perfectly every time, at all times, in every time. If you have problems you have not solved or goals you have not achieved it is because you either (a) are not aware of the laws, (b) you do not understand the laws, or (c) you have misinterpreted the laws in some way and are using them improperly. For if you are aware of an absolutely perfect law that works every time, and you then interpret it properly and use it properly, you will achieve whatever you desire. Every time. It CANNOT be otherwise.

It all comes down to this: You must simply learn to control your thoughts!

Once upon a time two men were standing and talking. It began to snow.

Man 1 got very excited and happy. He was a skier, and snow meant he could engage in his favorite activity. Man 2 was very unhappy, as he was a gardener, and snow meant the possible end of his well-tended garden.

The next day, the two men were standing outside talking. It began to rain. Man 1 became very upset, as rain meant the snow would soon be gone. Man 2, on the other hand, became happy and excited, as rain meant the possible return of the growing season. Now, which man was correct

The answer Both of them. But each reacted only to a personal perception of external events. You create your own heaven or hell, based only on your personal perception of events. This, of course, is elementary. But it is an unfortunate fact that we never really react to any event realistically. Suppose there was a man here who was both skier and gardener. Would he not be happy in either case Of course.

It is vital to understand that your thoughts create your reality. They create your problems. And they reveal your goals. But, more than anything, your thoughts will function perfectly in leading you to happiness.

If you can control your thoughts, you can control your personal reality.

Humans are capable of only so much. They communicate. They act. They feel. They believe. They decide.

Your communication stems from your thought. Control your thought and you will control your communication.

Your feelings stem from your thought. Control your thought and you will control your feelings.

Your beliefs stem from your thought. Control your thought and you will control your beliefs.

Your decisions stem from your thought. Control your thought and you will control your decisions.

Your actions stem from your thoughts. Control your thoughts and you can control your actions.

In short, you can control everything you personally experience by rearranging your thoughts. This should be of paramount importance to you, if you wish to find peace, joy and happiness. For you CHOOSE everything you say, do, feel, believe and decide. You are responsible, at some level, for all of it.

You, right now, believe you are at the mercy of your thoughts, for it appears as though you cannot control what comes to you. But you can. Without struggle.

So how does one accomplish the absolute control of ones thoughts, leading to a life of total peace, absolute joy, and the ability to create whatever one desires That subject would be a bit much for a single article. So, simply stay tuned for the next one!

For, shortly, I am going to simply teach you how to build a new world for yourself.
