Crime & Punishment Date: Sep 3rd 2009

I can't get too excited about victimless crimes, that is to say crimes in which the only victim is the person committing it. Those who want to self-destruct – provided the consequences are not shouldered by others – have the right to do it. Everyone has the moral responsibility for their own person.

Crimes against others is another matter. Nobody has the right to inflict physical harm on another. Nor does anyone have the right to harm us emotionally or economically. There are degrees of damage, obviously. Defamation does not bring the harm that torture, rape or murder does. In a just world, the punishment must fit the crime.

Uncluttered Your Life For Good Feng Shui Date: Aug 18th 2009

So many things in Feng Shui come from ancient ways and rules that might not seem obvious at first. Ironically enough, some of the earliest writings about Feng Shui, almost 2000 years ago, spoke of Feng Shui as being derivable and stemming from things that were almost common sense. Perhaps to the ancient Chinese, for whom Feng Shui had been a tradition for 1000 years already, it was common sense. For us in the west, however, we need a little help.

One thing nearly all of us need is a way to “unclutter” our environment. Clutter interrupts the flow of Chi, or energy, and symbolizes the way our lives will be on edge just as our home is. While Feng Shui does not have many hard and fast rules for “uncluttering” your life, there are some common sense steps to take before good Feng Shui can happen.

The Essence of a Better Relationship... Date: Aug 17th 2009

If there is anything I have learned in my own life and the lives of those I have helped, it is that we are all here to create a better relationship with all those around us as we individually experience our own joys, sorrows and overall discoveries. It is in our attempt to share these experiences with each other that we learn and grow and hopefully minimize our experience of ultimate solitude. It is through everything that we try to communicate our experience, among them being our gestures, our glance, our music and our words.

It is also within the limitations of these forms of communication that we often find ourselves trapped or detoured, for we cannot fully capture the essence of our experience. Just as a hot cup of coffee immediately begins to radiate its heat and aroma, so too, do we continuously emanate our essence. It is this constant balance of obtaining, sharing and losing this pure essence in our relationships that we try very hard to maintain.

Jubilee Celebrations In Ismaili History Date: Jul 9th 2007

A peep into the historical records tends to reveal the culture of holding the jubilee festival which was celebrated for the first time by Moses in obedience to the commands of religion before the inauguration of the Christian era. The Law of Moses prescribed a special year for the Jewish people: "You shall hallow the fiftieth year and proclaim the liberty throughout the land, to all its inhabitants; it shall be a jubilee for you when each of you shall return to his property and each of you shall return to his family. This fiftieth year is to be a jubilee year for you: you will not sow, you will not harvest the un-gathered corn, you will not gather the untrimmed vine. The jubilee is to be a holy thing to you, you will eat what comes from the fields." (The Book of Leviticus 25, 10-14) The trumpet with which this particular year was announced was a goat's horn called yobel in Hebrew, and the origin of the word jubilee. The celebration of this year also included the restitution of land to the original owners, the remission of debts, the liberation of slaves and the land was left fallow. In the New Testament, Jesus presents himself as the One who brings the old Jubilee to completion, because he has come to "preach the year of the Lord's favour".
